This is an artist-run space for residencies and experimental exhibitions, and we invite artists to dialogue with the territory and confront their own research with the context around.
Chiasso Perduto is an experimental space for artistic residences in the center of Florence, and is part of the Palazzo Macchiavelli and used to be the cellar and kitchens of the same palace. The objective is to open a dialogue with the resident artists that results in a site specific intervention. Our philosophy is always to create an interaction with the territory, to inquire about the position of an artist in front of a specific context, whether is the space itself with its architecture and history that already have a strong identity, be it a cultural dialogue with the neighborhood or the city and/or with the language, generating new codes that allow artists to expand their artistic research, perhaps breaking boundaries in terms of cultural constructions, techniques, of philosophical approaches and finally repositioning in front of a questioning of the conceptualization of the work itself. The residence is designed each time specifically for the resident, a meeting is held every day from 2 to 3 hours to discuss, propose and carry out some structuring exercises. In this space there is an educational process through dialogues with artists / curators and also a time for production in complete autonomy. The residence concludes with the opening of an exhibition as an open studio to show the results of the established dialogue.
