Unknown Portrait, from Tromholt Archive (1882/83) is based on Anne-Karin Furunes’ exploration of prints in the Tromholt Archive in Bergen, Norway and uses Anne-Karin Furunes’ signature translation of photographic imagery to allow for the passage of variable amounts of light to create a constant dialogue between the work and its surrounding environment.
Anne-Karin Furunes is a contemporary Norwegian artist best known for her hyper-realistic portraits, frequently of women, created through a rigorous process of perforating the surface of canvas.
