International Arts Forum

On April 12, 2010 TransCultural Exchange held a public reception and press conference at the offices of Edwards, Angell, Palmer & Dodge, LLP to announce the outcome of their first, annual International Advisory Board Meeting and Retreat. Speakers included TransCultural Exchange's advisory board - Mario Caro (President of Res Artis), Machiko Harada (Independent Curator), Jean-Baptiste Joly (Director of Schloss Solitude), Kayoko Iemura (Director of Tokyo Wonder Site) and Johan Pousette (Curator of Swedish Traveling Exhibitions) - joined by Michele Oshima from MIT's Office of the Arts as moderator.

Outcomes: Based on the Advisory board's suggestions:

1. For the 2011 Conference on International Opportunities in the Arts, the following additions have been added to the 2011 Conference agenda:

An extra day of activities, showcasing local cultural attractions and related research at sponsoring institutions, starting April 8.

International program presentations integrated into topic focused panels.

Increased Mentoring Sessions/Portfolio Reviews, starting at 10 am Friday, April 8.

A dedicated meeting site for appointments between academic institutions and international program representatives to facilitate partnership programs.

Dutch treat lunches for attendees and speakers to meet one another on an informal basis.

A reading program for attending writers and a screening program for artists to show slides of their work.

An exhibitors' hall to showcase new products, national residency programs, etc.

An initiative to pair curators with artists to create works during the non-Conference year, which will be featured at the 2013 Conference.

More artists as speakers on the Conference panels and workshops to learn about their experiences at the programs being presented.

A reading and video-screening program, featuring renown, international artists and writers.

2. For future programming, TransCultural Exchange will

Launch a biennale, international tour of a residency program with attendant off-site art tours for TransCultural Exchange's donors, sponsors and artists. The first such tour will be to Akademie Schloss Solitude, followed by a tour of artists' studios in Berlin and a trip to Documenta in 2012.
Produce a new, large-scale global art project, focusing on the works developed by the curator-artist teams, resulting from the 2011 Conference.

TransCultural Exchange would like to thank all the advisory board members for their time and expertise as well as all those who could join us on April 12.
