In 2016, Leonardo Electronic Almanac/MIT Press published Mary Sherman: What if You Could Hear a Painting, by Lanfranco Aceti.

Mary Sherman's art works also have served as covers for such books as New American Paintings; Susan Fromberg-Schaeffer's The Madness of a Seduced Woman, (Penguin Books); and Jayne Anne Phillips' Lark and Termite, (Knopf).
