Doris Kloster United States/France www.doriskloster.com “Charm Bracelet” photographs, cotton thread, red plastic, silver paint (container includes: ribbon and a wax stamp) Doris Kloster is an artist who uses photography to explore the iconic presence of women in visual interpretations of current world events. This charm bracelet includes self-portraits of Kloster that re-interpret some age-old archetypal female characters. Two of the images, USA Killers and China Pink were among works exhibited at Beijing Museum of Contemporary Art in 2007-2008. Her work updates the female figure as icon in two ways - reconfiguring the appearance of authentic, millennia-old objects of veneration, and creating new images to fulfill the impulse of myth-making around radicalized female paradigms.
