 PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE - MARCH 2002
THE COASTER PROJECT
Destination: THE WORLD
March 28 - March 30, 2002
Reception: Saturday March 30, 2002 3-5:30pm
The Bernard Toale Gallery is pleased to present a special three-day
exhibition entitled The Coaster Project,
Destination: The World.
In the year 2000, the artists’ run organization TransCultural Exchange
launched its first highly successful Coaster Project at the London
Biennale, followed by a second coaster project in conjunction with their
show at New York’s Trans Hudson Gallery. For both exhibits, the members
made art works in the form of coasters that were exhibited and then later
distributed free of charge.
For 2002, TransCultural Exchange has organized The Coaster Project,
Destination: The World in which 99 artists from around the globe each
create 100 coaster-sized (and coaster-functional) art works. Between March
9 and May 19, 2002 these 10,000 coasters will be on display in 99
trans-global exhibitions.
The aim of this worldwide effort is to create an international, public
forum where people from all parts of the world can unite and where art can
act as a common denominator- in this case, the desire to express ourselves
through visual images.
The Bernard Toale Gallery will act as host for one segment of this
worldwide Coaster Project exhibition from March 28 through March 30 and
will hold a Special Reception on Saturday March 30, 2002 from 3-5:30pm.
For more information about the TransCultural Exchange and its global
exhibition The Coaster Project, Destination: The World, please visit their
website @ www.transculturalexchange.org
Normal gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:30-5:30pm.
