Peter Houk is Director of the Glass Lab and an Artist-In-Residence at
MIT. The Glass Lab is a program which offers glass blowing and casting
classes, from beginning to advanced levels, to anyone in the MIT
community. Houk maintains an off-campus studio in north Cambridge, where
he makes various commissioned and non-commissioned works in glass.
About the tile:
This tile with the hole in the middle is sand cast glass with a section of
a copper tube placed in the middle to prevent the glass from filling in
that area. The exposed side has been sprinkled with copper powder while
the glass was still hot, so that the copper has fused onto the surface.
